The Vice President of the United States of America has been assassinated. Kirk Best is the prime suspect and on the run. Now every super powered being is after him.
The preceding is the basic premise of Intrigue, a miniseries from Image Comics. Intrigue is written and inked by Howard M. Shum. In the world of Intrigue, “paranormals” with super powers do not become super vigilantes; instead they use their powers to pursue jobs that would best utilize them, such as the military, police, bounty hunters, private detectives, etc... Our protagonist, Kirk Best, uses his pyrokinetic powers in his job in a security firm. Throughout this finite series, Best will try to find out who is setting him up and try to unravel the conspiracy behind it all while avoiding paranormal bounty hunters and justice seekers who are often sent out by the powerful and mysterious Hiroshi Katsura. FBI agent Lauren Sumner is on the case and will stop at nothing to bring Best to justice. Intrigue is like a Hitchcock movie with super powers. It is like a fusion of "X-Men" and "The Fugitive". Intrigue #1 (written and inked by Howard M. Shum, penciled by Kaare Andrews) has a alternate cover by Mike Wieringo. Dynamic Forces has an exclusive Ed McGuinness cover. Regular cover by Kaare Andrews and Howard M. Shum. Intrigue #2 (written and inked by Howard M. Shum, penciled by Kaare Andrews) On the run from the law and people who want him dead, Kirk Best has no options but to take along FBI agent Lauren Sumner because of a device on his wrist that will detonate if they separate more than a hundred yards. Best delves deeper into the dark conspiracy of the Vice President’s assassination. The mysterious and powerful Hiroshi Katsura places a $5 million bounty on Best. Intrigue #2 features an alternate cover by Randy (Witchblade) Green! Regular cover by Kaare Andrews and Howard M. Shum. Intrigue #3 (written and inked by Howard M. Shum, penciled by Tom Bancroft and Kaare Andrews) An NYPD SWAT team converges on vice presidential assassination suspect Kirk Best. Paranormal friends of Best from Pinnacle Security join him to help unearth a dark conspiracy. “The excitement you feel is infectious; one can feel it in the art! I'm dying to see the full series.” - Gene Ha, artist of “Top Ten” Intrigue #3 features an alternate cover by Humberto Ramos! Regular cover by Tom Bancroft and Howard M. Shum. INTRIGUE is ™ and © 2005 Howard M. Shum. |
